All I know is that hubs, whether powered or not are a no-no for use with burning CDs. The most reliable burns happen when the USB burner is hooked up directly to the computer and no other USB peripherals (aside from mouse + keyboard) are hooked up. My Lacie 2/2/4 will not under any circumstances burn when hooked up to the hub in an iCrap style keyboard. How this plays out on a Beige G3 with a PCI card I cannot say for sure, but I suspect the same holds true (I found this to be the case on both an iMac Rev A and a B&W G3/450 Rev 2 with said burner).
