I think you have sufficient RAM; you would be better off upgrading your
processor zif card to a 400 mhz or so (about $85 on ebay, and sell the old
for about $30= $55 net) than buying more ram. I realize that's only a 33%
clock speed boost but it's a good return for the money I think, and will
help everything run smoother/quicker.
The consensus seems to be that G4's are best for OSX by far, but those
processor cards are more costly- $228 for a G4 450 mhz at Otherworld
computing- dealmac says this is the best price. Some users running X on G3's
are happy with it. 300 mhz on a G3 is probably the minumum really adequate
speed for X. Here's what listmom Dan Knight had to say a while back- worth
