Having finally (yes, I'm slow) realized that having the system disks was worth the investment, I went ahead and made the investment. Expecting an OS to come with the machine is reasonable, and standard practice, no? Apple doesn't ship empty boxes, right? You have the 8.5 disks, yes? If you want a newer system, you have to pay for it like any other user who wants to upgrade to 9 and 10, I imagine. If the system came with 8.5 disks and 9.1 (or whatever you have) installed on the system it's considered "as is" and it's your lookout if there are problems, if you want to upgrade etc. Caveat Empty Your Pockets as it were. If I sold my beige (as if!) I wouldn't be handing over my 9 and 10 disks, I'd be keeping them for my G4 dual 1 gig with the 23" flat screen monitor (as if, sigh) and would offer the beige with software included "as is" (which is illegal, you didn't hear that, everybody). I won't say what's moral or not, not with 20 gigs of MP3s on cd (you didn't hear that either), but I sure am happy I bought real system disks for 9 and 10 so I don't have to scramble around downloading from Apple and getting "your localized copy cannot be updated" messages, calling friends to borrow their iBook system 9.0 disks (which aren't a perfect fit anyway) and all the rest of the hassles of getting an "as is" system. "As I want" is quite preferable to "As is" IMHO. John McClain -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
