Hi all;
Lately my Beige G3 266DT, rev.3C, 320 megs real ram, 6 meg vram has been
acting kind of flakey, things like not remembering certain prefs and such. I
hate doing clean installs, so I have an idea I want to run by the more
knowledgeable. I'm running OS 8.6 installed in February from a backup I made
from my old Performa 6360.
    If I were to replace the Finder,System Suitcase, and System Resources
and delete the Finder,General Controls,MacOS and System Prefs., would that
be about the same as a clean install except for the other stuff the
installer puts in? ( ie: control panels,extensions and such) If so, it sure
would be easier! Also, on a related note, I have a Microtek V310 flatbed
scanner on my external SCSI chain along with a Zip 100 and a HP ScanJet 4s
sheetfeed scanner. The 6360 wouldn't boot with the flatbed scanner on so I
always kept it turned off. Microtek's web site said certain PCI Macs had
problems booting with the scanner on is the reason I kept it off. Should I
leave the scanner on if the G3 will boot that way? Any and all replies
appreciated. TIA
P.S. Thanks for all the past help.
