no conspiracy theory, just the simple system limitations. for those who can get high speed access i'm happy, but it's worth checking with the provider and local geography before spending time and effort. i was just recently happy that my connections went from 26k to 28k. if you can make high speed work where you are, go for it and enjoy! ps, adsl works over longer distances because of booster amps along the way, i know someone who installs them and frequently gets zapped by the 180v power that runs on the wires to power the boosters! i was just cautioning against blind optimism, some of us do have limited resources.
