I was going to sit myself out of this thread after my Epson comment
last night but I guess I should step in again.

I have Macs that are 12 years old and are still on their original
battery. The idea of the battery (known as a clock battery in the
PEECEE world) is to keep the time and various boot-related
information in case of a power loss, not turning off the computer.

For example, do you have a fancy new PC lying around? if you open it,
keep it powered down but plugged in and the switch on the back power
supply on you see a light lit on the MoBo. This shows that even
though you have 'killed' the power (works with strips off, I tested
this) there is still electricity flowing through the line.

Now if I could only unblock my cat at night to keep her from jumping
in my face at 4am :-)
