I too have a problem with a Maxtor drive. I bought a Diamond Plus a little
over a year ago. While trying to install OS-X the total capacity of the
drive went from 45 gigs down to 30 gigs. I'm not talking about available
space I'm talking total space. The only solution was a total format with
zeroing all sectors. Now 3 months later I'm getting directory problems
daily, and a loud squeal. I sent it back for warranty replacement. We'll see
if they return it or replace it. I'm not going to buy another Maxtor. Its
also alot noisier than the used IBM that replaced it. It always had a slight
whine and a loud click from the heads moving.

DOS Computers, manufactured by millions of companies, are by far the most
popular, with about 70 million machines in use worldwide. Macintosh fans, on
the other hand, may note that cockroaches are far more numerous than humans,
and that numbers alone do not denote a higher life form.
