Wow is all I can say right now. I am going to have to eat some of my words.
But I'm a big enough guy to say I make mistakes. I can learn new tricks.

I work as an IT guy for a Private Company in SF, Ca. We have both a Dual
Zeon Compaq PC and a Dual GHz G4 for our Graphics Department. I ran tests on
both to see which computer would encode an MP3 faster from a CD.

Here are the test subjects Specs.

Dual 2GHz Zeon Compaq PC, with 1 GIG of Rambus memory, 18 GB Ultra SCSI Hard
Drive, and a 48X CD-Rom Drive. Running Windows 2000 SP2.

Dual 1GHz G4, with 1 GIG of PC133 memory, 80 GB ATA 66 HD, and a SuperDrive.
Running Both OS 9.2.2 and OS 10.1.5

Test song was 7.51 MB.

Using RecordNow Version 4.1 on the PC I was able to encode the song at
192KBS at 8.1X which took 40 Seconds.

Using iTunes version 2.0.4 running Mac OS 9.2.2 I was able to encode that
same song in 12.8X in 25 seconds (192KBS). I redid the test running OS
10.1.5 with both iTunes 2.0.4 and 3 and the results were 13.8X in 23.5
seconds.

All I can say is I'm shocked. I had always read the PC Web Sites and just
assumed there tests results were valid. I have a custom Built AMD PC at home
which costs about a $1,000 dollars minus the monitor. I'm going home right
to run the same test on it. I will get back to you later on the results.

Good Call, Neil
