On a related note Power Macs prior to the Blue and White G3 had dual 5.25" drive bays and prior to the Digital Audio G4s Macs also had analog audio in.
Its not really something we were forced to "wait" for, most like something we had went away and has just come back. Oh and Apple moving Macintosh to x86 chips is unlikely.
