yes, i got a 733 mhz when that was the fastest available, and if i
recall correctly it has a full meg of cache on the processor card, i was
dismayed when the new faster machines came out and the 733 and others
suddenly had only 256k of cache! that's just incredibly stupid. if i
ever start really pushing my machine, before i play with clock chipping
i've seriously considered upgrading the cache to 4 meg, which the board
will reportedly support, although it takes some fancy desoldering and
resoldering to accomplish it, and the few times i've unplugged the
processor card the connector has terrified me, it's not a great
connector, and it has several hundred high speed signal lines going
through it, if it were damaged by careless reinsertion it would likely
be utterly unrepairable! there are definitely some serious bone heads
heading apples design team, at least whoever decides what to include and
what features to cut out is really blowing it. apple software is great,
they need to work equally hard on making the hardware the best it can
be. cache isn't free, but it's allot cheaper than a second processor
that will also be starved for cache.
