These things come with specs.  I have a usb/firewire combo board that tells you
what the pinouts are.  I've not used anything that requires power on the
firewire side but everything works normally on the usb side.  

Lots of accesories say they work with "built in" usb or firewire but work fine
with add-on boards.

You can probably find the specs for the board you have or want on the web.
