I looked up the printer on the linuxprinting.org web site (they've got
information about most common printers there) and it seems that the
722 is a winprinter, i.e. that it doesn't have much in the way of its
own brains.  The computer controls the printer at a very low level (as
opposed to Postscript and PCL printers, which tell what characters to
put where, where to draw lines, etc., but I think similar to Quickdraw
printers-- but I'm not sure about those).  
There's an open source Unix driver called pnm2ppa that could probably
be ported to MacOS X without *too* much trouble, at least for somebody
with porting experience.
