One reason may be that HP has a lot of its cheaper stuff made by other
companies now and just rebadges it. So they'd have to go back to them to
get new drivers, as they were probably made to have the cheapest logic,
assuming the host computer does the thinking, in a completely non-standard
way. 

So much for standards -- get a PostScript printer (or at least PCL) and you
have something that your computer can use until it actually breaks down
(and I have a 13 year old HP laserjet III that still runs next to me).

As for the scanner, I see there's a 3rd-party app, "Vueprint" which
supposedly can run the 6200C, for $40.
