Well Ive collected not so much info but what I have is quality stuff =) here's a rundown..
from a source who has dropped a Gigabit into a B&W : "I have had a B&W, Gigabit, and DA mobo. <*he has a DA in a AXT case*> I would not reccomend trying to put the DA into a B&W case...tho it may work. Making that extra PCI slot fit would be a bitch. <*jury still out on this one I wouldnt mind having a pci slot missing in exchange for 33 more mhz's =) *> Putting a Gigabit board in is a cinch tho. One motherboard mounting post (maybe 2...don't remember) has to be removed, and the back panel has to have the firewire ports re done...and a audio port hole has to be drilled...and that is all. It's a really simple swap and everything lines up perfectly. " **so the only real dif. are the audio and firewire ports in the back =) ** **power supply still the kicker...** " Gigabit and newer all use the 22 pin...you can wire up a box to convert 5v to 22v...but I suggest just getting a 338 watt PSU. " ** and finially the CPU ** " For the CPU...you need a G4 AGP or newer CPU. " SO.... I think Im gonna go for it =) Ive got my 9600/G3-450 sold for $400 so I think Ill have enough $ to play with it for a couple weeks... so heres my plan < assumption >... keep my IDE/ata cdrw/dvd and zip 3 of my 4 sticks of ram are pc133 so I keep my ram keep my ide/ata hard drive keep my Radeon DDR PCI keep all my addons<printer/floppy/etc> *gport prob isnt compatible w/g4 buy gigabit,dv,or QS mb < can sell my Soundblaster if got a DV > buy a 22pin PSU buy an AGP processor sell my rev.2 B&W mb sell my B&W 20 pin PSU sell my G4/400 Zif Ive been pricing things out for a little over an hour now and if I began today I could have the total cost, when all is said and done, well under $100. and end up with a G4/450 AGP with not only the ability to add dual processors but also a 1ghz processor, pretty much at will ( and $ =) ) thats like putting a 5.0L in a model T =) makes my head kinda dizzy. so if anyone has any of those things listed up there that I need to BUY email me off list with a price and we'll talk turkey so I can have an early Xmas. my eyes hurt...Im done for the day. > On Tuesday, Oct 15, 2002, at 21:22 Europe/London, > <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > >> OK, I located a guy that has at least dropped a Gigabit E motherboard >> in his >> B&W case with what he described as "light" modification.
