I used to see that when I was using a Voodoo card on OS X. Sometimes I could
fix the problem by switching the depth of the display to thousands and then
back to millions. Ultimately, I fixed the problem permanently by buying a
supported video card. But I digress.

My point is that when your display colors get screwed up, sometimes you can
fix it by forcing a depth change.
