Thanks Chuck for the input.
But I have OS 10.1 CD. I'm trying to avoid re-installing 10.1 and then 
re-install all the update all the way to 10.5. That's a long and tedious 
task.  When you say you have tried deleted the preference folder without 
any success, that is exactly what I'm saying. Which preference folder 
did you delete? There is a Preference folder in the User folder, one the 
Library folder and one in the System folder. Which one should I delete 
without doing any damage to the system?
