In most Unix-like systems you can boot into "single mode," where a minimal set of extensions/libraries/etc are loaded, just enough to create a running system. For OS X, I believe holding command-s at startup brings you into single mode. Once there, I don't know how much you can do (no GUI I believe), so unless you're familiar and comfortable with the command line/shell, there might not be much you can do. ============================ Gino LV.
