Ok, that's an app using OpenGL to draw to the screen. So do a whole bunch of other applications. Quake, for instance. Other than that there's no mention of QE except that 'Apple likes the idea'. moreover, look in the FAQ: "Q:Can I make GLterm window transparent, too? A:No, GLterm view is made by OpenGL, outside of Quartz drawing context. So there is no transparency support. This is also why your window appears blank when collapsed in the dock."
