Ok, that's an app using OpenGL to draw to the screen. So do a whole 
bunch of other applications. Quake, for instance. Other than that 
there's no mention of QE except that 'Apple likes the idea'.

moreover, look in the FAQ:

"Q:Can I make GLterm window transparent, too?
  A:No, GLterm view is made by OpenGL, outside of Quartz drawing 
context. So there is no transparency support. This is also why your 
window appears blank when collapsed in the dock."

So where is any evidence that QE is open source?
