Thanks, and I agree, I was always a big 7.6 and 8.6 fan, 8.1 came and went and was good, but I am just centric in my example to my tastes. Interestingly enough MacWorld characterized the upgrade as being bigger than System 8 to Mac OS 9 ... I thought this was interesting because the way they said it they made it clear that System 8 to Mac OS 9 was a really big change, but I always thought of Mac OS 9 as kinda eh ... 9.0.x certainly felt like the 8.7 it was originally intended to be and 9.1 and 9.2, well, just never seemed all that special, whereas 8.5-8.6 was a huge improvement over 8.1. > 10.1 to 10.2 is like 8.1 to 8.6. (note, everybdy had to pay > full ride for those two upgrades, as well...) Something that way too many Mac users are neglecting to remember. > lots of imnprovements, a > huge speed boost, and ubercool stuff like Rendezvous. > (Rendezvous doesn't get lots of coverage, but the ability to stick a > Mac > on a network, and automatically go off and find other Macs isn't all > that big news to those of us who've been using Appletalk all along. Theoretically it could > make *everyone's* networking as easy as two macs and a cable...*that* > is > huge.) Rendezvous is actually the greatest feature of 10.2 in my mind. It is even easier and more seamless than AppleTalk was since it works with EVERY utility and service, I open a terminal window and SSH and FTP and Telnet and whatever else I try will use Rendezvous, I open Network Utility and it works. It is an incredible system and I surely hope it does spread, but with support from every major printer OEM and many others as well as it being Open Sourced there is great potential for great things, and god knows that MS will screw it up if they ever put it in Windows, so if Apple continues to grow perhaps MS's screw up will work against them.
