Unofficially, the rev c rom works fine in the rev 1 motherboard, though the only
reason you'd want one is for supporting additional drives. Or, I guess, to
support these unfriendly usb boards.

But I'm not that happy with Apple support. They have obsoleted lots of
equipment in X by not supporting localtalk. They are going to start selling
machines that won't run anything but X, which is unfriendly to power users and
is only a business tactic, not something that frees the designers, as far as I
can tell.

They sold the original X versions then sold it again with Jaguar (though they
gave them to teachers, thank you very much...I appreciate that one.) Even if
Jaguar is a major upgrade it doesn't appear so to a consumer, unless you admit
that pre Jaguar was beta that you paid for.

As it stands, I spend a lot of time switching between X and 9 (not Classic)
because tools or hardware I need work in one and not the other. This is a pain.

I support Apples move to Unix and understand what a monumental problem that is.
I'm not sure they could do it any differently, with a few exceptions. Apple
needs to stay in business. But this is expensive and inconvenient for a
consumer who can't spend a lot of time and money on upgrades.

Ok, sorry, just my two cents.

Rich
