I bought a lite-on 48x24x48 (48246S) CD Burner under
the name Buslink at Best Buy for my son's PC; I
actually grabbed 2 of them since the price was so
good. I didn't realize that it was lite-on till I
hooked it up. I saw excellent reviews on this product.
I flashed it's firmware up to the latest version and
hooked it up to my beige G3 DT.

I have to say it works great. It even boots on key of
"c". Toast 5.1.4 recognized it. It burns CD's quickly,
compared to my trusty yamaha 6x4x16.

It's hard tell if it's a lite-on, as there is nothing
in or on the box to tell you. It seems other
companies like Cendyne use it but you might not know
for sure from one to the next. The Cendyne 48x28x48 I
looked at at Office max gave higher requirements:
300mhz pentium, as this Buslink said 266mhz pentium.

The only problem is that though it fits OK, you cannot
place anything on top of the Beige G3, as it pushes
down and prevents the tray from opening. My other 48x
CD rom lite-on did the same thing. I was able to keep
my zip drive on the left side. You would have to do
some filing down of the sled in the Computer to get it
to move down a little if you wanted to place your
monitor on top.

You would think they would have made it a little more
to specs to get more Mac users to purchase it
considering how well it works. As the difference
wouldn't make any difference on a PC.

Right now I torn as to whether to to keep it, as my
scsi Yamaha 6x4x16 works good enough for me. But it is
certainly fast enough to keep as the only CD rom.
