Aloha One thing the beige G3 has is sometimes the video board needs to be reset. Since you stated you just picked it up...it might have been jarred or loosened or one of the contacts needs to. One of the symptons that has showed up now and then was no sound. Since you just picked it up....... might want to open it up and pull out the video board in case it has been jarred a bit or a dirty contact. There is a screw in the board that connects to the back panel as well as the pci slot screw. Pull it out and then reseat it.
