OK, thanks for the advice...now... I tried all of that to no avail...sort of...
I reseated the AV sound card, it was indeed loose. On one of the later 20 second startups and shutdowns I did get the chong, so that was indeed the problem. I put a new PRAM battery in, got the above results and that is it. It has not been capable of another 20 second chong startup and instant shutdown. I reseated everything else again, still I intermittantly get the secondary PS fan running and that is it, a short pulse of the keyboard lights and then nothing, not even the chong. The keyboard, mouse, monitor, hard drive all check out on another computer, as well as the system folder. At this point I am assuming it is the power supply and I need to replace it.
