Well leaving it on the old drive is an option.

When I installed 10.2 on my new 60 gb drive, I had to make the first 
partition just *under* 8 gb...in the OSX drive setup utility (which you 
can get at from the menu in the installer process) I set the partition 
to 7.99 gb. Then it worked.

When I set it to 8.0 GB it actually formatted it to just over 8GB whihc 
caused the installer to barf.
