Add to that the fact that an appliance is on 24/7, and the 
dollars/atmospheric carbon really start to rack up.  Dummy loads on 
TVs and other appliances that go into a standy or soft-power-off mode 
are a big energy conservation issue.  When in doubt, switch it off at 
the wall.
