Hi, Rev! >> The 2 ATA cables in my MT both have 3 connectors, but different part numbers. The numbers are as follows: Foxconn #=080-0003-192 with 3 connectors Foxconn #=080-0004-192 with 3 connectors >> 080-0003-192 and 080-004-192 appear to be Foxconn part numbers, NOT Apple part numbers. And, these (Foxconn) part numbers appear to be for the polyester connector removal strap alone. Nothing more, nothing less. Now ... >From my Beige G3/333 MT (now 533 MHz) which was originally equipped with UW-SCSI drives, the EIDE hard drive cable was not connected to anything, which is consistent with your observation. This cable has one mobo end and one functional end. The Apple part number of this cable is 590-4615 Rev. A. >From this same Beige G3/333 MT, the EIDE CD-ROM drive cable was connected to an EIDE CD-ROM on the first connector, and to an EIDE Zip on the second connector. (Some Beige G3s which were originally equipped with UW-SCSI drives were also equipped with SCSI Zips, not with EIDE Zips). This cable has one mobo end and two functional ends. The Apple part number of this cable is 590-5024 Rev. According to sources <grin>, J9 must be used if only 1 ATA bus is used. So I assume that J9 must power the boot drive with J10 powering the CD if both busses are used. Is this correct? >> J9 can indeed be used with two EIDE/UATA hard drives. I manufactured such a cable. And, although I am not currently marketing this cable, I do have a number of specially engineered and 100-percent tested and certified dual Bus 0 hard drive cables in my finished goods inventory. Using my special cable, you can indeed install two EIDE/UATA hard drives on Bus 0, and the second drive may be installed in any MT drive bay, although the floppy bay is the obvious first choice for such a second Bus 0 hard drive. (Contact me off-List, if interested). >> This ATTO/Apple SCSI card I have in this MT, is it Ultra Wide SCSI? It has a 68 pin external connector and looks like a 50 pin internal connector. >> That ATTO/Apple SCSI card is indeed UW-SCSI. The 50-pin connector is not used. This ATTO/Apple card contains Apple-specific firmware which prevents you from upgrading the card to incorporate the many fixes to that card which ATTO later supplied for that card. It is possible to: 1) FLASH that card to reflect ATTO as the manufacturer, not ATTO/Apple, and, thereafter, to 2) FLASH that card to the latest and greatest version of the ATTO "retail" firmware. I have several machines with the upgraded firmware, and the effort required is definitely worth it! Best, Peter. -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
