A Maxtor 60 GB Maxtor hard drive disappeared off the desktop of my G4.
Apple system profiler sees it and even reports it's name and number.
Drive Setup, when started from the OS 9.1 CD, sees it and
lists it as "Unmounted." But the "mount" option is greyed out in the
toolbar.
FWB Hard Disk Toolkit sees it but when I highlight it and
click on "Mount" nothing happens.
Norton Disk Doctor and Volume Recover do not see it. (Thanks Norton).
I could, of course, initialize it and remount it on the
desktop since Drive Setup offers that option, but that would erase
everything on it.
Does anyone have any ideas on what could have happened to
this drive? That is, what was lost that the computer can no longer
mount it? And, any ideas on how I might mount this hard drive to
retrieve the data?
Thanks,

It sounds like the Volume Wrapper or Directory is damaged.
Most likely DiskWarrior can fix it, if not you can try reinstalling the
driver. Otherwise you will have to Nuke&Pave.
Aloha, Ken
