I tried for about a year to get audio back on a beige G3 desktop and
never got a peep out of it. I tried re-seating everything removable, 10
pram resets, cuda switch, take the battery out, etc. Nothing worked for
me. I think my sound card is just plain dead. Others have reported that
one or more of the above tricks got their sound working again.

Work on it for a while, and if it doesn't come back save yourself a lot
of headaches and drop a USB card into it and get an iMic for $35. I
already had the USB card, so $35 solved my problems entirely. I
eventually spent another $30 on amplified speakers (2 small and a
subwoofer) and now have the best sounding computer I have ever heard.
