There are some kernel components you need to have available. CONFIG_ATALK is the minimum you need to use netatalk under Linux. If you have a LocalTalk interface installed (an ISA card in an x86 box, not the built-in LocalTalk in most Macs), you can enable CONFIG_DEV_APPLETALK and either CONFIG_LTPC (Apple or Farallon interfaces) or CONFIG_COPS (COPS interfaces). CONFIG_IPDDP is also available to enable something the Linux documentation calls AppleTalk-IP; whether this is the same as MacIP or is something different, I don't know. (The only machine I have that uses MacIP, somewhat ironically, isn't a Mac...my IIGS is connected to the LAN through a GatorBox CS, which is configured as a LocalTalk-Ethernet bridge and MacIP gateway. My Macs have built-in Ethernet, so I only use CONFIG_ATALK.) All of these can be compiled as modules and can be loaded before netatalk loads. Since you already have netatalk running on FreeBSD, you could crib the netatalk config files from that. I'm running netatalk 1.6.0 on Linux 2.4.19 (it's Linux From Scratch, not something like Redh*t or SuSE), but I've run older versions of netatalk on various Linux 2.4.x kernels. (If you have Apple IIs on your LAN, netatalk 1.6.0 (or maybe 1.6.1, but I've not tried it yet) provides the best support yet for them. If you only have Macs, there shouldn't be much difference between versions.) _/_ Scott Alfter / v \ [EMAIL PROTECTED] (IIGS( http://alfter.us Top-posting! \_^_/ pkill -9 /bin/laden >What is the most annoying thing ever? -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
