First, your original setup was largely bogus. In a mixed environment of Macs and PC's against a Linux file server there is NO reason NOT to use netatalk to serve Mac clients. You can do it via the same accounts, and server the *same* directories via samba and netatalk. It's allegedly possible per this white paper, which mainly talks about intergrating OSX server and Active Directory, but since OSX server uses LDAP as a authentication mechanism, it's doable. <http://a1584.g.akamai.net/7/1584/51/7f99c60f0c08bf/www.apple.com/macosx/server/pdf/MacOSXwithActiveDirectory.pdf> One of the network managers here on campus has been playing with it (and managed to lock himself *entirely* out of his system, so experiment first!)
