I quit trying Netscape on PCs with Netscape 6, which was unusable. I waited until 7.0 before giving it a shot on my Macs. By that point, I was hooked into the Mozilla project. I now use Mozilla 1.2.1 on OS 9.1 almost exclusively. But Netscape 7.0 and 7.0.2 are pretty darned good.
Given that Netscape 7.0 and 7.02 are Mozilla 1.1 and 1.2 with the serial numbers filed off and a few sponsor decals slapped on the body, I'm not surprised ;-)
Netscape 6 was *awful* as was the Mozilla release (0.6) that it was based on. The problem was that Netscape stuck with that thing forever, whereas Mozilla had moved on to 0.8 within a month or so...*much* better. 0.6 was painful to use.
That said, under 9.1 IE *is* probably faster. But Ill bet if you frontload Netscape with a pile of memory your stability problems go away.
