I think that unless you're doing heavy graphics it's ridiculous to say that 256MB is not enough RAM. If you really need the advanced graphics capabilities (I mean really need it) then get a newer Mac with the money you would have spent on the upgrade. Considering how much good graphics software costs, if you have that kind of money to begin with, splurge on a newer machine!

If you had a bigger drive, I believe you'd have to partition it to 8GB anyway, so you're fine to add another drive, but you'll only be able to boot from this 8GB drive.

Yes. And why should they since no Macs have had floppy drives for a very (!) long time... ---what about the internal zip and my external scsi cdrw?
No problems. ---Any other downsides or things that will become useless or inoperable?
It will work, but it won't feel very fluent...
