System Disk is only required from 9. Just use the Startup Disk in X (from System preferences), as it works differently from the 9 Startup disk panel.

However, as Rich has mentioned, once System Disk has set up the Jag partition as the Startup, just use Option to boot into 9 whenever required. Dead easy. Just reset System Disk after any Pram Zapping.

(System Disk in 9 does not work with tray-loading iMacs, nor does the Option key).

Tried that. I hold down the option key and it seems like it's going to boot into 9, then restarts and boots into X. Set the OS 9 drive on Startup Disk in X, and does the exact same thing.

Might only be an unsupported issue on my 9600/G4/800......
