You can file a fraud claim and get all/most of your money back. This sucks when it happens. I agree with the rest of the list: always check history and feedback. Even just one negative feedback about not sending a product should be a red flag. Don't deal with anyone with even one negative feedback.
I used the fraud claim years ago for a PowerBook 1400. I was very careful to find the cs model with the active matrix display; not the 1400c model with the passive matrix display (darker display). The auction details stated it was a 1400cs and in fact, it was a 1400c. After trying on my own to make the seller understand why this was important she stopped responding to me. Then I filed the claim and I got $200 out of it.
