I used to frequently have this problem of unreadable attachments  in 
OS8 with Eudora -- my inelegant solution was to run "weird" attachments 
through MacLink. I would guess, however, that there is probably a 
setting that would fix it.

With inline attachments I've noticed that it seems to depend what 
machine I look at it on. If I check an MS Exchange server web-based 
account on a PC I get the message. If I check it on my Mac half the 
time I might get the code (then I try the save as txt and open in 
something else trick) and half the time it works fine.
