There are two ways to get around this problem. You can add memory to the printer. But, it is rather hard to find anymore. (maybe ebay or the swap list)
Other work-arounds: if the exact layout isn't important, copy and paste the
text into an app of your choice and print from that. If layout is
important, "print" to a pdf file. Then print the pdf with Acrobat, which
will give you more control.
Taking a copy of the page did not improve print time. However, I found the trick: Go to the Pref of Safari & disable the HTML option (Viewing menu). It prints in less than 30 seconds! Perseverance pays off in this case.
