I have a G3 BW (upgraded to 450MHz G4) with a version 1 IDE controller for the hard drive. I want to install a Hitachi 80GB drive and when I first tried there was a lot of data corruption and I had trouble starting up. I have been advised by Apple to install a IDE controller card for hard drives to update the old chip on the motherboard, which does not support big drives and also slave/master problems will arise. My question is, will any IDE card (PCI) fit this purpose or do I have to get a dedicated Mac card? I can obtain a Highpoint Rocket 133S ATA disk accelerator. Will this work in a Mac?
