Hi all.
Perhaps someone with more DVD savvy than I can help me w/ this:
I have a beige rev.B G3 desktop (266mhz) running OS 9.2.1, 196mg RAM. It has
an Apple OEM 8x DVD-ROM drive in it, works great as far as I can tell
(thanks, Brian!) and also an Apple-OEM ATI Rage 128 RevB PCI video card in
it, with the additional DVD daughtercard decoder attached to it. I am hoping
to run some instructional DVDs that I get from audio companies for office
preview.

I tried the Apple DVD Player 2.7 w/ the "hack" (available at
http://www.os9forever.com/DVDPlayer.html). I followed instructions as
posted, extracting the appropriate components using Tome Viewer (apparently,
the installer won't work, as it will choke up as soon as it sees that the
machine is a G3), then running the hack on the v2.7 player, which reports a
successful hack.

Upon launching the newly-hacked Apple DVD player, it reports that it can't
run, as certain components of the app can't be found "try reinstalling Apple
DVD player - error .201"

I've also tried OS 9.2.1's native Apple DVD version 1.3 - IT states that
"certain Macintosh hardware can't be found to run Apple DVD" (doesn't say
what these hardware components are).

I'm a bit miffed with this DVD player, as Apple is pretty good at telling
you what it's NOT compatible with, but never tells you what it IS compatible
with.

Is there anything else needed, or can I run a substitute app, or can this be
done at all with this configuration?

Many thanks - my apologies for a long post.
Best regards,
Dana
