You can find anecdotal evidence of problems with every upgrade manufacturer,
if you care to look for it.  CPU upgrades especially are problematical.  I
know people who swear by PowerLogix, and those who swear at them.  Ditto for
Sonnet, Newer, etc.  My advice--and what I do--is to treat all CPU upgrades
as suspect unless/until you hear reports of people who've actually been
successful in upgrading with them.  The xlr8yourmac.com site has a large
database of reviews from users who've upgraded, and I highly recommend
searching it for any upgrade(s) you might be interested in.

I think a 500 MHz G4 would have a tough time beating a 900 MHz G3 on all
but solid Altivec benchmarks, but YMMV.  :)
