Wow, that G4 upgrade is really very cool! I found an Apple KB article on taking apart Rev A-C iMacs (for RAM upgrade) that may shed some light on how to disassemble them for the less-hardware-inclined folks out there:

You simply remove your logic board and send it in to them in the supplied box and they replace your G3 with a smoking new G4 and send it back to you!

I have my fingers crossed that they will be able to do this mod on the later iMacs soon ( I have a Fall 2001 Blueberry iMac) and maybe even with a faster G4!
