I had a bad "pro" mouse. What I found is that there is a design defect that causes the cable to fray internally right at the point that it enters the mouse. It is virtually impossible to fix this mouse. I did it, but it took me a whole afternoon. You must cut through plastic glue welds to access the innerds and the mouse will never be the same.

I recently bought some mice on ebay. Belkin and microsoft laser mice, to be specific. Both work great although I like the belkin best because it is smaller. (the belkin cost me $7 plus $4 shipping).
