If one "Wings" version was superior, I'm not aware of it. --- end of quote --- I got curious again, so I went looking for documentation to my assertion that the DVD personality card has an upgraded audio chip when compared to the Audio or A/V cards. Here's it is:. (http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Hardware/Developer_Notes/Macintosh_CPU s-G3/PowerMac_G3/pmacG3.15.html)
Note that the noise specs on the DVD card appear to be the main improvement at least according to the specs Excerpt: The sound specifications for the sound ports on AV configurations of the Power Macintosh G3 computers are * 16-bit stereo input and output * sample rates of 11.025, 22.05, and 44.1 kHz (Apple Audio/Video and Audio input/output cards) * sample rate of 44.1 kHz (Apple DVD-Video and Audio/Video Card) * input line level (Audio/Video and Audio input/output cards): 2 Vpp maximum into 10 kilohms impedance; nominal signal to noise (SNR) ratio 80 dB, 85 dB typical (A-weighted, 2 Vpp output, 1 kHz, digital record and playback, sound input port to sound output port); for the the Apple DVD-Video and Audio/Video Card the nominal A-weighted SNR is better than 90 dB * frequency response (Audio/Video and Audio input/output cards): 20 Hz-18 kHz (+-3 dB relative to 1 kHz) * frequency response (DVD-Video and Audio/Video Card) 20 Hz-18 kHz (+-1 dB relative to 1 kHz) (End excerpt.) The DVD card is not supported in the Beige All-In-One. And it should be noted that the video digitzer will not work unless you have a rev 3 motherboard. And iin fact, according to one user, if you install a pci video card, the video digitizer feature quits. These specs do not seem to address the mic input and its preamp. So I'm still not sure if it is stereo, though I think it is not. In fact, earlier in this document it says, "These cards include a line-level audio input port for a microphone ." This is not accurate, since microphones are not line level. I bought my Beige MiniTower on ebay. It was represented as an A/V machine, but turned out have just the audio personality card and a rev 1 motherboard with a rev A rom. (ebay!) So I bought an a/v card, thinking that the newest and fanciest card would be great. (This card also sports higer resolution video specs, 640 by 480 at 30 fps, than the earlier A/V card.) I spent literally months trying to get the video digitizer to work, but of course, it never did. Video out is fine, though if I need that feature my Radeon 7000 has it too. I keep it because it is supposed to be better in the audio department. And, as it turns out, firewire video input is vastly superior to what these personality cards could offer. These cards include a line-level audio input port for a microphone I hope this is some interest.
