Define "killed", cause I'm confused. You say it killed the machine, but then the last phrase at the end of the first paragraph you say, "it works fine."

I have run 10.1 on a Rev A iMac with no problem. Make sure the firmware update is applied first (it's on the CD); Version 4.1.9 if memory serves.

I presume you're speaking of the 10.1.5 Combo update. You'll need a security update first before the combo update can be applied.
