2 simple questions
What are the settings on each ata device? (master or slave)
And what ata buses are used for what device?

Sorry, Larry, I thought I gave this info but it kind of got lost amongst my ramblings. The original HD (where system 9 is) is connected to it's original bus, as master I presume, whatever the factory setting would be; the second HD (where system 10 is) is connected to an ata133 controller card, and I left the jumpers set at "cable select" when I installed it. My G4's manual says the cable select setting isn't supported, but I think it's just referring to the original bus; it has worked fine on the controller card. Thanks.

I don't know what's going on, spent an hour on the phone with Apple tech support and also with semi-local Apple authorized dealer/repair (not the newer Apple Store, not in this part of the boonies!) and still not getting Log-in screen nor Setup screen after a Jaguar clean install. I can call the dealer/repair store again tomorrow, but thought somebody might be able to shed some light on this tonight.

My system: G4/400 Yikes, with second 80-gig internal Seagate Barracuda HD connected to Sonnet Tempo ATA133 PCI card, where 10.2.6 resided peacefully and was main boot drive until yesterday. (The original 10-gig internal West. Dig. HD has 9.2.1 on it and is still controlled by its original bus; ...) (snip).... From OS9 I can open it (the Jaguar volume) and see that apparently all the files are there, and I can set the control panel to reboot with it. But then I just get that blue swirly screen, with no menu bar, no icons, no log-in screen, no dock, no response to any amount of clicking, nada.
