1) Make sure the AddressBook app is not running.
2) Go into your home directory (~) and follow this path: ~/Application Support/AddressBook
In here you will find a file called "AddressBook.data." This is your *current* data file (the blank one). Take it out of this folder and put it on your desktop.
3) Locate the your old AddressBook file in your Previous System folder. Take it out of there and drop in the location mentioned above.
4) Open the AddressBook app and your info should be there.

Does anyone have an idea where the data files would be? There is a folder called "addresses" in the old user library, but it doesn't show up in the address book when I move it to the new user library. If I try to import it the content is grey and I can't import it to the address book :-(
Thanks, Bonnie
In the future, choose "archive and install" to avoid that. Your old data is in a folder called "Previous system." I think it's located on the top level directory of the hard drive. You'll need to find the data files and put them in place in 10.2.x.

I just upgraded from 10.1.5 to 10.2.3. I checked the boxes that told it to upgrade from an older version (not new install), and to save the old system (just in case). When the upgrade was done running, my Mail and Address Book were replaced with a clean new one--none of my old mailboxes, emails, or addresses were there. Same with stickies and keychain. I finally got my old Mail into the new Mail, but I can't get the addresses. When I tell it to import I navigate to my old addresses and it says it is importing but nothing shows up in the new address book. Anything I can do here?
