I could not have worded this more succinctly! I got burned on two different installs of 10.0 after putting it off for a long time (I know, I know, you're right: 10.0 sucks). I *hated* 10.1 when I first started using it. I said to myself, "Well, I guess I need to stick to this. This is where the Mac is going and I need to get familiar with it." I finally got used to it after a little more than a week. Now, when I boot into OS 9, I hate the way it looks! I always tell new OS X users to give it a chance!!
P.S., my wife was the same way...
