For some reason I've heard of a lot of problems with WD 60 and 80 GB drives from Mac users, I've got one in my B&W that's given me problems, a girl that got one at the same time as me and put it in an iMac had problems with hers, when mine wasn't working one time I saw a post the same day about another WD 60GB drive, and now this... I don't think I'll buy a WD drive for use in a Mac again.

As Kyle Hansen will likely testify, Western Digital are currently going through a dry spot, and are the best excuse to run a mile in the opposite direction if anyone tries to sell you one. I've expanded my recommendations to Seagate *or* Maxtor recently as I now have 2 Maxtors and are very happy with them, and they are currently producing the fastest and most robust drives out there.

Remember every company goes through dry patches in production where they get more than their average share of duds. Maxtor had a period a couple of years back (around the 30-60GB mark) when they had a lot more drives step out on them then usual. Seagate have never had a huge spell of them but certain models have been noted not to last under heavy use.

My distrust of WD is somewhat fueled by mumblings that they cut too many corners and their drives are slow as a result.

YMMV
