I'm sorry to hear that.  I work with a guy who also has daily headaches.
His is pretty much same story except for the vertebrae issue, afaik.  

There has been an update on this topic in the German Mac Life forum where a
poster claims to have successfully swapped chips and only had to use
flashrom to get it Mac ready (i.e. ready to be flashed in a Mac).  Here is

You might have to copy and paste some of that if it line wrapped.  Anyway it
looks good as long as I can do the chip swap okay.  More later.
