I'm a techie and like to tinker and I'm not sure how much you like to tinker. In your situation I say: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

It will cost a lot of money and time to upgrade the apps and put X on that machine. And it will probably cost more "tinker time" than you're willing to give as well.
