Step by step gets lengthy. However, I have screen shots of Drive Setup and Disk Utility on the page in my sig block. It doesn't matter if you format the drive with OS 9 Drive Setup or OS X Disk utility. Install OS 9 first. Then insert the OS X CD and install (it will reboot to the CD on it's own before installing). Now a days partitioning is not necessary unless it's a user preference. I don't bother.



My limitations: I can't boot from the ext firewire HD that I've cloned my
current internal HD to. I plan on ignoring the current HD and just use the
new HD for booting (master). I really just haven't found any good summary
instructions for how to format and install the OSs on the new drive.



Want to make sure you are not trying to boot your B/W G3 from the HD in the FireWire enclosure. B&Ws don't boot to firewire drives. It's just not in the firmware.
